[Day: Friday, April 15th. Time: 2:50 p.m.] [Weather: Slightly Cloudy with a chance for showers later.] [You gather at the lockers. Some of you, anyway.] [Session Start] * Haruko approaches. She's back to reading Mars manga. Presently on book four. She's frowning. * Katie is there, swapping books. She does that. * Taki walks up the hall and looks marginally more awake than she did the day before. She doesn't seem surprised by the lack of Satoshi. * Haruko plops down by the lockers, still reading. "Hey Katie." She lowers the book a bit so while her eyes look down they are still visible. * Katie looks over at Haruko, then turns her attention down the hall to see Taki. * Katie finishes getting the right books and closes her locker gently. "Hi." * Taki waves slightly at Katie and then moves her hands to cover a yawn. * Haruko doesn't look up, she's still frowning. "Afternoon Taki. How are you feeling?" * Taki finishes yawning and looks at Haruko. "...Like I could sleep for week... I think... Satoshi said he had to do something... and that we shouldn't wait for him." * Katie nods. "Kaede said he's busy, too." * Haruko frowns more and nods. "Guess we should wait on the watchers then." ( Girls night out! *thud* zzz....ZZZzzz) Yeah. * Katie starts walking for the exit. * Haruko closes the book and looks to Katie. "You wanting the day off?" Her tone is curious and not chastising. I'm not staying here. * Taki blinks at Katie. "I... er..." She trails off when Haruko asks. * Haruko smiles slightly. "I gathered that from the way you were walking out. Are you looking to be alone?" * Katie shrugs. * Katie looks back at Haruko and Taki. "It doesn't really matter. You can come with, if you want." * Haruko stands and looks to Taki. "Anything urgent we should be doing?" * Taki shakes her head. "I... maybe talk to Remi?" * Haruko snaps her fingers. "We could give her a call. More important I need to give Masaru Uehara a call about her." * Katie sighs. * Taki nods slightly and then takes a few steps towards Katie before she gets out of sight. * Haruko walks. "You don't have to deal with her, don't worry. And thanks again for the number." She then puts in a call to Masaru. You're welcome. * Katie walks! * Haruko keeps with Katie for now. She can actually walk and talk at the same time. Amazing. * Taki takes a breath and then follows Katie and Haruko. * Katie keeps walking, looking to the sky and avoiding other students getting out of class. She heads down the street. [You leave the school! It's a little hard to avoid the students, since most of them are leaving anyhow.] Hi, it's Haruko Kinsha. We met back at the Tower, you said I may call you Pierre. ::Her tone is slightly amused and she sounds pleased to have gotten a hold of him:: * Haruko giggles slightly. "I didn't say that was your name. You are also known as Masaru Uehara, yes? But I am happy to call you Bartholomew if you so desire." Err, Lord of the Flies? I haven't read that. I heard it was something like Battle Royale except with no adults at all, right? * Taki walks along behind and listens to half of an insane conversation. * Haruko nods. "I will. Do you recommend a translator?" [You get to a park!] * Haruko laughs and puts her book away. "I mean one translator over another. But I will get that from the library. I'm a bit annoyed with my present reading material anyways." * Haruko nods. "I can't believe the author is having her quitting racing because her boy injured himself. Couldn't she support him by racing? Anyways, I'd like to ask you to take on a new client." * Haruko stands in the park looking fairly oblivious to her surroundings. * Haruko frowns. "I know, but I don't think that will change soon. Are you able to take a second? She is in dire need of your help and more of her problems may quickly respond to your skills." * Haruko thinks for a moment. "I doubt it. I could ask her to, but I'm not sure she's much of a reader." * Katie looks around, then walks into the park, looking at the trees. And up them. I will. Thank you. * Taki follows Katie and also looks at trees, but isn't sure as to why. * Haruko hangs up. "He's in a fairly serious mood. Said I should read Lord of the Flies and make sure Remi reads it too." Lord of the Flies. I read that. ... I ... haven't heard of it before. * Katie stops under a tree and removes her shoes, then her socks, tucking those in. It's like Battle Royale right, kids attacking one another? Not the same. * Taki watches Katie. "That... doesn't sound very pleasant." * Haruko nods. "Okay. Well, I'll check out two copies. Hope I can convince Remi to read it." * Katie looks at the shoes and socks, then up the tree. She adjusts her satchel before grabbing the lowest branch and starting to climb. "It's not." (... I'm having flashbacks to the OOC mini with Taki falling out of the tree.) * Taki nods and watches Katie climb. ( Taki's trying to look up Katie's skirt. ) * Katie settles on a relatively low, but thick, branch and leans back next to the trunk. She curls one bare foot against the branch, heedless of, well, someone looking up her skirt. "Lord of the Flies fits us better." (She's not that close!) I have it at home. ... In English, so I guess that doesn't help you much. * Taki looks back down at the ground and then walks up to the tree. "Wh... what's it about?" No, not really. Well, I'll go to the library when we're done. * Katie digs through her satchel and pulls out an unfinished carving and a knife. "Kids. Their plane crashed on an island, so they were stuck there until someone found them." I take it that it doesn't go well? * Katie puts her satchel on the branch next to her and unwraps the wood, tucking said wrapping into her jacket before she gets to work. "Nope." * Taki nods and the sits at the base of the tree. "N... not with a name like that." They start okay, because they know how things should be, but they start to fall. There's nothing to keep them in check. People are animals, and the beast is in every one of them. * Taki nods very slightly. Ah, so when society falls apart. It's different from Battle Royale. In Battle Royale, it's about survival and what you'll end up doing to survive. Lord of the Flies isn't about survival. If they wanted to survive without hurting anyone, they could have. No explosive collars. * Katie pauses, then adds, "Shelter, warmth... none of it's a problem in Lord of the Flies, really. They don't even need to kill animals for food. They end up doing it because they want meat for difference, and then for fun." * Katie works on her carving, her knife flashing in the light as she speaks with a quiet voice. * Haruko nods. "Without society and rules things fall apart." (Aren't you *glad* I'm an English major? ;P I know this by heart.) * Taki rubs her arms, and totally misses the flashing knife as she isn't looking up Katies skirt. (I could do it. Polisci majors need to know this stuff too. ^_~) (Ditzy Japanese seniors, not so much.) They fall apart, and they become self-destructive by the end. * Katie chuckles. "Power is fun. We all know it. It's in us." The ironic thing is that we have society all around us, but it almost doesn't matter. We're separate. I... don't want to wind up like that. * Haruko nods and looks up. "Know any good books about how to build a society?" * Katie sighs. "Rebel and start a democracy?" * Haruko snorts. "Nothing to rebel against." There's a problem. * Katie turns the wood in her hands and shaves some more wood off, brushing it to the ground below. * Taki nods. "J... just little groups that... don't care about the others." (I'm going to assume you didn't just dump those on Taki's head.) (Sure!) * Haruko closes her eyes. "I do remember my history. Warlord bands aren't all that different from our gangs in a way. They were united in part by honor but also by guile." She frowns. "And mainly by conquest." If there's no one left to stop you, you've won. * Taki stays silent. * Haruko shakes her head and opens her eyes. "No. It's bad, but not that bad." ( Just make sure you're on Cao Cao's side. His side wins. ) To Lord of the Flies? We're a lot like it. Maybe we are. I haven't read it. But you don't win when no one is left to oppose you. That never happens. You win when others choose not to oppose you. When they have more interest in maintaining the society than tearing it down. ... But... they aren't opposing you anymore. * Haruko looks to Taki. "But it's by choice. There are still people left to oppose you, they just choose not to. Or choose less destructive ways to do it." Lord of the Flies didn't fall into no society, really. Just a different kind. There's always a sort of society. I... guess so... I the second one feels like... how I think the first one should be? ... Does that make any sense? * Haruko waves a hand at Katie's comment. "It sounds like no real civilization. Some societies are little better than barbarians. And not always that organized." She looks to Taki. "I don't quite understand you." * Taki looks at Haruko. "I ... guess I define nobody to oppose as nobody opposing... because if I didn't... there wouldn't be anyone else?" 2d6-6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Katie (2d6-6) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 1. * Haruko shrugs. "I don't think that's how Katie thinks of it, or she wouldn't have said 'nobody *left* to oppose.'" She glances up in Katie's general direction. "Am I right?" * Katie looks up and into the distance. "I meant what Taki said." * Taki looks up and then nods. "Th... that's good." Yes, that is. Kaede's coming. * Haruko gets out some homework and gets to work. "Ah, okay. Wonder if he'll want to do the watchers now." * Taki blinks and then tries to look where Katie is looking. He's got a friend. * Katie goes back to carving. Akemi? Soleil. * Taki blinks again. * Haruko puts away her homework. "I wonder if she has news about Fuyuko." Maybe. I hope so. I still want to talk to Yurihisa, but from what Kaede's said it probably won't do any good. * Katie is silent for a moment, and she keeps carving, and then she says as Kaede and Soleil approach, "We are like Lord of the Flies. We have nothing to hold us down. I used to hate that book and the way it looked at people." Civilization has always been about far more important things than luxuries or even running water and the like. * Kaede glances at Katie as he approaches out of the corner of his eye. "Lord of the Flies?" Yeah. Hi, Kaede. Hi, Soleil. * Soleil approaches with Kaede, sure enough. She's was talking to him, but stops at that. "Bon jour! I'm sorry.... Lord of ze Flies?" I didn't expect to meet you out here.. * Katie is up the tree, on a relatively low-hanging but rather comfortable branch, carving away. Her satchel's on a branch nearby, and her shoes and socks are at the foot of the tree. * Taki gives them a small wave from where she's sitting against the tree Katie climbed. * Haruko looks up and waves. She's sitting at the base of the tree. "It's a book that a friend recommended. Apparently it's appropriate to Arcana." She looks to Soleil and speaks with a slight note of hope in her voice. "Any news about Fuyuko?" Very appropriate. * Soleil shakes her head. "Non." (So, who's Piggy?) * Taki swallows and then nods. "Th... that's too bad." (Remi?) (Uh. No. Remi is not Piggy.) (Has to be Kaede, he's the only one with glasses.) * Kaede sighs and puts his hand against the tree, looking up. "Should have known you'd climb a tree.." * Katie makes a quiet mmm sound and blows some shavings off her carving. (Tenjirou! Don't you feel sorry for him now?) * Haruko frowns at Soleil's answer. "I was afraid of that." (He's Piggy? Why isn't he CRUSHED UNDER A BOULDER?) * Soleil nods. "And... One of ze elder ztudents iz missing also. Ztrange." (We haven't pushed it yet!) What's the student's name? * Soleil scratches her cheek. "I... am not zertain." Do you know anything about him? Her? * Taki watches and listens to Soleil. Only zat he iz friends with Izumi's brothar. It has only been two days, so perhaps he iz fine. * Taki shakes her head a bit. Hope so. Perhaps. ::she pauses a moment:: I didn't know Izumi had a brother. If he's anything like her, than his friends are worth looking out for. * Soleil nods. She looks rather unsure, though. It wouldn't be that hard to get a name and description of him. That way we could keep an eye out for him and ask some of our contacts. * Soleil nods. "I zuppose I can ask Izumi for one." And maybe his name. Of course. * Katie smiles a little. "Thanks." She keeps carving. Maybe you could give her a description of Yorihisa Kaede. He's a senior too. I doubt Izumi's brother or the missing student would known him, but we don't have a lot of leads. * Haruko frowns. "Although there are reasons to disappear that have nothing to do with Fuyuko." * Kaede glances at Haruko. "Hmm?" I'm probably reaching. I'd just like to see if I can figure out any more of what Yorihisa's role in this is. Maybe Izumi's brother has seen him around. * Kaede sighs and rubs at his forehead. "We'd both like to know that..." * Taki nods again. I, too, would like to know more. * Haruko nods. "So maybe give Soleil a description. I don't know him that well or I'd do it." She looks to the French girl. "Even if there isn't a connection you might find having the description useful. You haven't seen him before, right?" I might 'ave, but I do not remember. * Soleil blushes a bit. "And... A description would be, 'ow you say, most difficult." * Haruko nods and gets out a paper and pen for Kaede. Her gaze rests on Soleil for a moment, trying to work out what exactly made her blush. * Soleil gets a more serious look on her face. "But I will try eet." * Haruko figures it out and nods. "Thank you." ( She does? >.> ) * Taki doesn't get it, but she's tired like that. * Kaede puts a hand on her shoulder. "I'll help you out." (Soleil was referring to the description of the other guy, not Yorihisa) (She doesn't know the details, but a blush makes more sense in that context) * Haruko keeps holding out the paper for the moment. * Soleil peers at Haruko. * Haruko waits to see if Kaede is going to take the paper from her, ignore her, rebuff her, or what. * Kaede takes the paper and looks at it for a moment. * Haruko puts her arms down and waits. * Katie carves. * Kaede finishes writing it down and then passes it onto Soliel. "Remember him?" * Soleil looks down at it, furrowing her brow. "Ummmm...." * Taki watches Soleil. * Soleil points at the third character down. "What iz zis?" We could simply hand the description to him if you think it's too much trouble... Zat could be best... perhaps. * Haruko nods. "Maybe verbally describe him to her, just so she knows too." I'll do that along the way. * Haruko nods. * Soleil nods. "Oui... But..." She blushes again. "I am not zo good at... um... at remembering Japanese faces." I bet they'd get confused in France. Per'aps. * Haruko laughs and doesn't comment on how well she fairs with gaijins. (Her first reaction to Katie was "...why isn't she wearing a cowboy hat? I thought they all did that.") [Session End!]
