  either angry or panicking.  It's impossible to tell which,

<Brett> ["We've still got a lead here. Ryuji and I will stay here 
  today to check it out."  She pauses a bit, then adds, "It's 
  small, but we've gotta try, right? See if you can get more out 
  of Hiromi.  I'll talk to you later.  Bye."  She hangs up 
  without leaving Haruko a chance to respond.]
