* Satoshi looks over at Kaede. "So where do we start looking? How do we start looking?" * Kaede takes a deep breath as he watches the train depart, then turns around. "So...where do you think she'd be most likely? Kyon says he's got us covered if we miss school but.." You think she just went straight to school? I don't know why she wouldn't go home first though if that were the case... * Kaede snaps his fingers. "Satoshi. Got any money on you? Say at least 1000 yen?" Huh? Yeah. * Kaede lets out a deep breath, then pushes up his glasses, looking at Satoshi evenly. "We're going to see Saori." [Satoshi realizes he does have the money. It's under the egg in his right pocket.] * Satoshi reaches into his pocket and takes out some money. "Here. Oh, the fortune-teller girl?" Huh? * Kaede nods. 'Best shot, don't you think?" * Satoshi pulls out the egg. * Satoshi sighs. "Jin." * Kaede blinks and looks at the egg. "...or, we can just let Jin take us there." [Yet Jin doesn't seem to be around.] He could have put it there earlier. I need to start locking the door to my room. If it has a lock. Anyhow. You know where this girl is, so lead on. [Sure, Satoshi, that'll stop him.] (Secretly, he knows it's futile, but he has to at least try.) * Kaede nods and starts making his way towards everyone's favorite alleyway. Or if it's too far, heads towards the subway station that goes closest to everyone's favorite alleyway. [Subway station reached!] (*fanfare*) * Satoshi follows Kaede's lead, since Kaede knows the way to San Jose. Well, the alleyway. Possibly he *does* know the way to San Jose as well, or could at least look it up. * Kaede boards said subway station and does all the necessary stuff to get to the alley. ( Kaede, mind roll! ) [After filling out 4 hours worth of paperwork, Kaede gains permission to go to the alleyway. Or, he would have if he had the red tape defect. Aren't you glad you don't? Eitherway, you wind up at the station nearest to the alley.] So this is it? * Kaede nods and starts making his way towards the alleyway. Possibly. He might have gotten horribly lost. * Satoshi doesn't know where they're going, so he follows Kaede, trusting that he does know. This may be misplaced trust. In the meantime, any ideas where she might have gone in case this doesn't work? * Satoshi shakes his head. "Not a one." He sighs. ( This may be my fault. I mean, *everything's* my fault, but this more than most things.) [Kaede does not know the way to San Jose, nor could he look it up if he tried.] * Kaede keeps a lookout for Saori. (Haha!) (Wonderful. We hope he knows the way to Saori though :P) (*cracks up*) ( Both of you gimme perception rolls, +3 ) [You both see a bird perched on the edge of a building. It looks down at you, blinks twice, and takes off down a street.] * Satoshi points at where the bird was. "Did you see that?" * Kaede glances at the bird and starts to walk on before glancing back at Satoshi. "Yeah? What about it?" It was an owl. Like the one that guy that came to see us a long time ago had. I think his name was... Norishige? * Kaede thinks back and then looks back where the bird was. "You think it was his?" Maybe. * Kaede takes a deep breath and starts to dash where the bird went. "Well, it's Arcana-related. And with our luck, anything Arcana-related involves one of us getting kidnapped, bruised, beaten, or nearly killed. Come on." * Satoshi hurries after him. (Sometimes all at once!) (We're multitalented that way.) [You follow the owl! It leads you through the alleys until you get to the place Saori usually sets up her stand. And believe it or not, she's there, along with a certain blind kid. The owl lands on his outstretched arm.] * Saori peers. "Awww! They did come! That means I don't get the money!" Huh. For once, I was right about something. Will you stop it? You're right more than you realize. ( No you're not. It's not Norishige, it's a cardboard stand ) (Damn. Well, somebody can put it in their room as a display.) * Kaede walks forward and adjusts his glasses. "What's this all about?" * Satoshi gives Kaede a brief glance before turning his attention back to Saori and Norishige. * Saori jerks a thumb at Norishige. "He made me skip school today." * Satoshi frowns. "Why?" Fate decreed you would come here to speak to her, so I had to make sure she was here for you to talk to. Yes, I did. Fate, huh? * Kaede stops, then narrows his eyes, looking at Norishige. "Fate, nothing. Did you do something to Katie?" Me? No, not me. No it wasn't. Then who? Then someone did? * Norishige tilts his head, but doesn't answer. If you know something, tell us! * Saori clears her throat. "Fate also decreed you were gonna give me 1000 yen, so fork it over." For a reading. * Kaede looks at Norishige. "That is...if he's not going to answer." That'll be another 1000 yet. Another? Why another 1000? * Satoshi sighs. "I'm beginning to dislike fate." * Saori shrugs and smiles. "That's fate!" No. It's not. We pay for services rendered. And you haven't as of yet rendered a service. I don't care what he told you, he has no pull with us. Hey, I'm skipping school for this! The least you could do is give me a measily ol' 1000 yen, mack. Fine fine...so are we, you know? * Kaede stops himself from saying any more. Because he's sure she'll up the price if he does. Hmmm.... Gimme another 2000 yen and I'll have fate mess with the truancy officers so you don't get caught skipping. We don't need to. It's approved by the student council. Sure, like the student council can get you out of class. * Kaede sighs and pulls out his wallet, counting 1000 yen out. "Hey Satoshi, lend me another thousand, will you?" * Satoshi hands a thousand to Kaede. ( Satoshi, give me money. Here!) * Kaede takes it and slaps it down on the table. "Just the reading please. We'll worry about the consequences when we come to it." Ah... I can't yet. Why not? ...and why...exactly...CAN'T you? * Kaede is trying very hard to keep his voice calm. Because first one of you will duel with me. That you will. ... Not this again. * Kaede turns slowly to Norishige. "...not this again." Out of my head, Kaede. You're the one that gets into people's heads, Watanabe-san. And after that I'll do a reading, but only for double the usual price. Y'know, fate and all. Right, right. Alright...keep the money there. DON'T take it. And DON'T try to tell us afterwards that we didn't pay enough. * Satoshi looks at Kaede. "So, shall I do it?" * Kaede turns more fully to Norishige and adjusts his glasses. "Why do you want to fight?" Ok, I won't... If you gimme 50 yen. ... It's fate. What else? * Kaede 's eyebrow twitches at Saori's comment but he doesn't say anything. No he doesn't. As I've told you before, we are going to fight no less than three times, we are. This is fate. It cannot be changed, no it can't." Yes but...WHY does fate decree it? Is there any rhyme or reason to this? Or are you just fighting for the sake of fighting?" It's fate. Yep! It's fate! Loser has to give me 100 yen More fate * Kaede takes a deep breath. "This is pointless..." * Satoshi lets out a breath. "Can we just get on with things?" * Kaede draws his wrench out of his overalls and gets it ready, sighing. "I hope I still have enough energy for this..." * Satoshi blinks. "You sure you want to do this, Kaede?" * Kaede looks over at Satoshi out of the corner of his eyes. "Do I really have a choice?" Guess not. Just be careful. [We have a lot of breathing action going on.] (Intense! Breathing! Action!) (*dies*) * Kaede shakes his head and sighs. "No, I don't want to do this but..." He eyes Norishige. "Come on then." * Norishige collapses his cane and sticks it in his pocket, then grabs his sword from behind his back and draws it, giving the scabbard to his owl, which flies up and proceeds to circle overhead. "I am ready. That I am." Winner only has to pay me 50 yen. Will you quit trying to profit off of other people's misery? Sure! 5000 yen, please. ....just shut up, Kaede. Shut up * Satoshi looks at Saori briefly, then at Norishige, then narrows his eyes. * Satoshi sends to Kaede. ~Field just went up.~ [Kaede goes first. Go Kaede!] * Kaede closes his eyes and concentrates on charging his fingers along his wrench, sending sparks along the length. Hopefully he doesn't collapse because of it. [He doesn't! Yet!] * Norishige wastes no time. He darts forwards and swings overhead at Kaede! 2d6-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6-2) and gets 5. [Kaede take a slice to the leg! Ouch!] ( I'm not calling init, either. There's only two of you :P ) * Kaede tsshes out between his teeth but tries to keep concentrating. He snaps out the wrench towards Norishige, sparks trailing behind. 2d6-4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6-4) and gets 3. * Satoshi winces. Yes, he's terribly supportive. ;p (You suck, Satoshi.) (He does.) * Norishige spins to one side, avoiding the wrench and bringing his sword around at Kaede as he comes out of it. 2d6-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6-2) and gets 0, a CRITICAL SUCCESS!!! "I love the smell of a crit in the morning." [Kaede sidesteps and moves his wrench in a swing and connects with Norishige's side. Fzzt.] * Kaede finishes that and huffs, seeing if Norishige still gets up or yields. Doubtful but it's worth a shot. If he doesn't, he rushes at him again. * Norishige is still standing and does not seem ready to yield. 2d6-4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6-4) and gets 0. [Kaede gets another good hit in! Almost. Norishige slides past and moves in close, his sword thrusting for Kaede's gut.] 2d6-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6-2) and gets 4. [Kaede does not get stabbed!] * Kaede is very glad of that, but it doesn't stop him from taking another swing at Norishige. He's looking more and more tired as he does so. 2d6-4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6-4) and gets 2. * Norishige is hit again! He staggers back and drops to one knee. "Gah. That's quite sufficient, yes it is. I give up, I do." * Kaede takes a deep breath and stands, dispersing the lightning, then drops to one knee, huffing. "I...I did it..." Yay! Now pay up! ... * Kaede turns slowly towards Saori. "...why do winners have to pay anyhow?" Fate ... * Kaede reaches into his pocket, finds a 50 yen piece and puts it on the table with the others. He then slumps over the table a bit, not able to quite keep his head up. * Saori snatches it up! Now...tell me... Where...can we find....Katie...Andrews? * Satoshi looks worried but doesn't say anything. * Kaede tries to pull himself up with the table as a prop but staggers, not able to quite rise from his knee. * Norishige gets to his feet and resheaths his sword. He gives it to his owl, then takes his cane from his pocket. "That is the second time we've battled, it is. There will be at least one more time, there will. Until then, I bid you good fortune, I do." * Norishige walks off! * Satoshi watches him go. "I guess I'll be it next time... whenever that is." Soooo... Now what? ... * Kaede glares up at Saori and tries to catch his breath. "I...told you. We...need a reading. We need...to find...Katie Andrews..." ... Who? ...she was here before. You've done...readings for her before...you have to...know her... * Saori scratches her head. Then she blinks and puts on her floppy hat. The Page...of Swords.... * Kaede tries again to pull himself up this time. He may even succeed! Oh... Alright, alright. * Saori snatches the 1000 yen up and pulls out her deck. She shifts through it and pulls out the Page of Swords, and puts it down. * Saori then draws a card without looking. "You will find herrrrrr.... Here!" * Kaede looks at the card. * Saori puts down a card: The world. ... * Satoshi blinks. "HER?!" There's your answer! She's somewhere in the world! Please tell me it's the person. Not the... * Kaede slaps his forehead. "That's what I thought..." Now...can we get an actually USEFUL reading? * Satoshi lets out a relieved breath. "Not her. Good." That'll be 1000 yen, please! I already paid you for that. No, you paid me for a reading, and I gave you one! * Kaede points down to the table. 1000 yen is still there, since she only took the first 1000. * Saori looks down. "Oh. Ok." She takes it somewhat reluctantly. ( I was raised by Injuns! ) Now then...where is Katie Andrews located now? As specific as you can get. * Saori draws another card, but as she does she draws something else with it; it flies out of her hand and lands near Kaede's feet. * Kaede looks down at his feet and blinks, bending down to check it out. * Satoshi glances down for a second at the card, then looks back up at Saori. [The tarot card is the Tower, but the other thing is a piece of paper with some writing scribbled on it.] * Kaede picks up the paper and unfolds it to look at the writing. [Kaede can't read the writing; it looks like chicken scratchings.] What's it say? * Kaede tilts his head to the side slightly. "...I can't read it." * Saori scratches her head. "Huh. I guess I must have accidently put that into the deck yesterday when I was shuffling." * Kaede hands it over to Satoshi. * Satoshi looks at it. [Satoshi is reminded of Jin.] (I was hoping that enough time spent around Jin would allow me to understand Chicken. ;p) Hmm... reminds me of Jin, for some reason. * Kaede stands up slowly and dusts off his overalls. "Chinese maybe? Or maybe it's just the way he writes..." (Though I think Kaede'd be able to notice it as kanji if it were chinese :P) Could be. But we still don't have a real answer. * Kaede looks down at the card. "That's kind of what I suspected, but I wanted to make sure..." He takes a deep breath. "It's a better bet than nothing." I bet I could read it! It'll only cost you 1500 yen * Kaede frowns. "...although what if it goes with the true meaning of the card and means Katie's facing..." He swallows his breath. * Kaede sighs and looks to see if he has the 1500 yen in question. * Satoshi looks over at Kaede. "I'll cover it." * Satoshi hands Saori the paper and the 1500 yen. * Saori snatches the money. Yoink! It's just some old condemned hotel. A bunch of friends and I were gonna go up there this weekend and tell ghost stories, and see who could last through the night. An old hotel? What does an old hotel have to do with this? Yeah. What is this? Well, it's tower-like, and in the world, so... But...why would Katie be there? Where is it? * Saori shrugs. "Maybe she wanted to join the party?" What party? * Kaede then looks at Saori and adds. "...and how much..?" * Saori grins. "50 yen. It's practically a freebie." * Kaede sighs and gives her 50 more yen. He's sure he at least has THAT. You know...I think I'm going to have to talk with Nanami about her friends...that is...if she ever speaks to me again... * Saori gives an address! It's somewhere not TOO far from Sakuragaoka. Right. Thank you, Yamaoka-san. Oh yeah! That's right, you're the one who... oh, nevermind. * Kaede tips Saori an extra 50. Doesn't hurt to be polite. $_$ ...whatever you heard, I didn't do it... (Cute!) Right, right, my lips are sealed.... Probably. * Kaede turns towards Satoshi. "Let's go. Hopefully she's really there..." Yeah, let's. * Kaede waves to Saori and walks back towards the subway. To the hotel! * Saori waves back without looking; she's counting the money instead. * Satoshi follows. Perhaps he should invest in a pair of coconut shells so he can make clip-clopping noises. (Haw!) (And this is my faithful servant, Patsy...) [Off you go! After another subway trip, you wind up near Sakuragaoka!] [Don't let them see you, or you're gonna get it.] * Satoshi looks around. "Hope nobody notices us." * Kaede looks at Sakuragoaka and then frowns. "Let's hope so. Even if they catch us, a possibly kidnapped friend is more important than school." Very true. * Satoshi heads for the hotel! * Kaede heads that way too. His turn to follow. [You walk! And walk! It's a surprisingly long way to walk.] * Satoshi keeps on walking! * Kaede doesn't mind. Or maybe he does. He seems to be faltering behind. He looks really really tired. ( You want me to carry you?) [The streets get more and more deserted as you walk, but eventually you find a tall building that must be the hotel, because there's a faded sign out front. There's also three boys outside throwing rocks at the windows. One of them you recognize.] * Satoshi blinks. "Wonder what they're doing here?" he asks quietly. * Kaede looks up as he approaches and frowns. "Great. This better not be one of his pranks." (Gee, looks like they're being delinquents!) * Ken tosses a rock through a window. There's a crash and the others laugh. * Kaede growls as he walks forward. "What are you doing?" * Satoshi keeps step with Kaede. * Ken turns towards Kaede, juggling a good-sized rock in one hand. "What's it look like, geek?" * Kaede ignores the geek comment. Insults don't work when they come from someone with the intelligence of a slug. "Is there anyone in there in particular you're throwing at, or is this just random property destruction?" Duh. That wasn't a choice. * Ken tosses the rock, breaking another window. So which is it? * Ken rolls his eyes and looks back at the others, who snicker. Then he picks up a rock and holds it out to Satoshi. He points at it. "When you throw this hard enough and it hits a window, the glass breaks. It has to do with friction and velocity and all that science crap. Ask the geek about it." * Ken tosses the rock, breaking another window. "That's the lesson for today." So you're just destroying things for the sake of destroying things? Real bright, aren't you? * Satoshi shrugs. "Whatever." It takes the dimmest bulb to see that. * Satoshi sends to Kaede. ~So, you want to go in?~ * Kaede glances at Satoshi. ~Saori said she should be in here. With our luck though, they wait till we get in to throw more rocks.~ Yeah? 'Cause it took you long enough. * Satoshi sends back. ~We'll just have to stay away from the windows, then.~ * Satoshi starts heading towards the hotel. Yeah. Thinking takes time. Might try it some day. May even like it. [There's some short steps leading to a door.] ( Kaede, ranged defense! ) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6) and gets 7. [Kaede gets beaned with a rock.] * Kaede tips forward and tsshes, swirling around. "We don't have time for games." Uh huh. * Kaede folds his arms across his chest. "Look. Katie might be in there. So we're going to look. Could you please not throw rocks at us while we're checking it out?" Andrews? Get real. She doesn't skip school. She's a regular goodie-two- shoes. Yeah. She also comes home from school too. She didn't do that yesterday. * Ken blinks twice. "She didn't?" Then after a few seconds he turns and laughs to his friends. * Ken starts towards the hotel. "It's pretty obvious you're just scared of ghosts, geek, so don't worry, I'll save your pansy ass." * Kaede grumbles and rubs his head where the rock hit. "Whatever. Trying to explain things to you is a waste of time." He turns to follow Satoshi. I didn't ask for your help. Do whatever the hell you want. * Satoshi would care more if his player weren't on the verge of falling asleep, probably. (*smacks Satoshi* Wake up.) (Yeah. Some not-boyfriend you are!) Yeah, brave and independant, aren't you? Scaredy cat. I'm more independant than you'll ever know. * Kaede just heads in the freaking place by this time. Sure you are. * Ken nods to Satoshi. "That's why you need your boyfriend along." * Satoshi hasn't even bothered to argue. "Just shut up. Nobody cares what you have to say." Uh huh. [Taki would later dump Satoshi for cheating on her :P] (The GM predicted it, and lo, it shall come to pass.) * Kaede doesn't argue anyhow. He just looks for Katie. [But meanwhile... You enter the hotel! More specifically, what looks like a lobby. There's a reception desk, chandeliers, and covered furniture. A small layer of dust covers nearly everything.] [There's also two hallways! Left or right, guys?] * Kaede heads left. [Satoshi follows Kaede?] d2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Brett (d2) and gets 1. [Satoshi follows Kaede.] d2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Brett (d2) and gets 2. * Ken goes right. "Sure, I'll make sure there's no ghosts down this way. Try not to freak out; it's only morning." * Kaede mutters under his breath. "He who barks the loudest, fears the loudest." He then searches for any signs of a Katie. [Kaede heads down the the hallway! It goes around a corner.] ( Perception check! ) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6) and gets 10. [Kaede... uh, heads down the hallway!] * Kaede searches the hallway and calls out. "Katie! Are you in here?" ( Gimme another perception check! ) * Kaede then remembers who he's calling and replies to himself in a more normal tone of voice. "...I could probably whisper it and she'd hear me." 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6) and gets 12, a CRITICAL FAILURE!!! "Some things just aren't meant to be." (....) (Some savior you are!) [Kaede hears a poltergeist!] * Kaede swivels around behind him to look where he heard it. [He isn't sure! It could be all around him! He'd better get out of here quickly, or he'll regret it!] This is stupid, there's no such thing as...course... * Kaede rubs his head, confused. [There! Another noise! Look out, Kaede!] * Kaede turns towards the noise and narrows his eyes. [Kaede isn't sure where it came from!] * Kaede keeps turning and growls. "Ken, stop it. This isn't funny." Kaede? What's wrong? * Satoshi comes back from... wherever the heck he's been. Ken's trying to make a fool out of me, I'm sure of it.. ( Satoshi! hearing check! ) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Satoshi (2d6) and gets 12, a CRITICAL FAILURE!!! "Don't blame me. Blame yourself, or God." (....) (You people SUCK.) (*cracks up*) ( Oh my god @_@ ) (We do suck.) [Satoshi hears noises too! Ghosts! Aaaaaaahhh!] (It's like the reverse of last week's MC2 session!) Do you hear that? Yeah. It's Ken. He's trying to pull pranks on us. Are you sure it's him? I mean, what if this place really *is* haunted? That's STUPID, Satoshi. There's NO such thing as haunted houses! [Another noise might make Kaede think otherwise.] (Technically, this is a hotel...) * Satoshi looks hurt. "There could be." * Kaede sounds a bit nervous as he says it. "...I mean it, Ken. Stop it." He concentrates on searching the rooms, shaking his head as much as possible to clear it. No ghosts, no ghosts. ( This is utterly priceless ) (Isn't it? ^_^) [Kaede tries to grab a doorknob to look, but he finds his hands are shaking.] * Kaede looks down at his hand, and then closes his eyes and takes that hand to slap himself. There's no such thing, dammit! * Satoshi looks around nervously. [No there aren't! And there's the sound of something shattering. Something big, and wooden. Deffinately not a window.] [The ghosts are angry!] * Satoshi jumps! "What was *that*?!" * Kaede jumps too and swivels around. "It was nothing! Old house settling. That's ALL Satoshi! Focus! We need to find Katie!" * Kaede sounds just a TAD hysterical as he says it. Right, focus, right... * Satoshi sounds very uncertain. ( Mind rolls at +4! ) I wish I had a flashlight. 2d6+4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Satoshi (2d6+4) and gets 14. 2d6+4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kaede (2d6+4) and gets 8. [You hear a ghost as it starts screaming, its voice echoing around the hotel!] Ahhhhhhhh! * Kaede growls. "See! I knew it! Ken, shut the hell up!" A-are you sure it's him? * Kaede grabs a hold of Satoshi's shoulders and shakes him. "It's Ken. It's Ken. I'm sure of it. Calm down." ... * Satoshi is shaken. "Um, uh, right..." Could you let go now? [There it is again!] * Kaede lets go. "Wait..." (o/~ There it is again, that strange wind that cries... o/~) * Kaede rushes towards the sound! Kaede, wait! He must have found something. * Satoshi runs after him. "You'll get... uh... well, whatever it is ghosts do to you, they'll do it!" ( Ecto-slimed! ) I *told* you. It's Ken! (* puts on Ghostbusters theme) (*is already listening to that.) (Way to go, random winamp.) (Awesome.) [You run! back down the hall and across the lobby, into the other one!] [That one also turns!] Where are we going? * Kaede turns down that one. "Towards the sound." Isn't that a *bad* thing? No! I told you. I think Ken found something. Maybe the ghosts found him! There are *no* such things as ghosts, Watanabe-san. NO such thing! [Right around the corner, there's a shattered door to a storage closet. Ken is also there, on his knees, cradling a very, VERY sick looking Katie Andrews. He says without looking up, "Call an ambulance."] * Ken then does look up, and roars, "NOW!" [End]
