[When we last left off, Kyon and Kyoko had visited an old temple on a mountain, just outside of Shanghai. There, they met with Tomoyuki Kojirokawa, a boy dotted with little bandages, who apparently has a tendancy to cut himself. He was also revealed to be the Two of Swords, sent there by a mystery woman to help Kyon. Kyoko doesn't seem to trust him, though.] [But trustworthy or not, he tagged along as Kyon and Kyoko explored the rest of the old temple-turned-tourist attraction. So far, their search has proved futile. They're standing in the room of the abbot currently.] [Session Start] * Kyon goes over to the uniform of the abbot that's hanging on the wall, and examines it to see if there's anything hidden in it. ["Well, it's a bit fancier than the other rooms, but I don't see anything usnusual about this place either," Tomoyuki says. Idly, he rolls up his sleeve and draws his knife along his arm, just above the elbow.] [Kyon finds a quill in the folds of the robe. You know, the kind you write with. It's white, and any ink that might have been on it has long since dried up.] * Kyon pulls it out, looks at it for a moment, then rubs it between his fingers before moving to examine the bed. "Got to be thorough. Best lead I've had in days, here." 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 7. (Mmm... against mind? That'd be a no, then.) ( Oh man. Kyon's having such horrible luck with these rolls >.> ) (True. I haven't gotten one off since I've been back.) [The bed is a simple cot, really. It's got a thin mattress and two thick but very plain blankets.] [And a pillow.] ["Hmmm," Tomoyuki muses. "A thought just occured to me. Wasn't Mr. Honda the age of Pentacles? Why would he have the Sword?"] * Kyon steps back from the bed, and looks around the room again. He stalks over to the chair, and feels underneath it with a scowl while gesturing curtly to Kyoko with his other hand. "Her brother got one from the wrong suit. Doesn't seem impossible he'd have one." He glances sidewise at Tomoyuki. "You know he was the Page?" [He nods. "Didn't you?"] [Kyoko comes over. There's nothing under the chair, though. Not even gum.] * Kyon straightens up, and rolls his shoulders. "Know more about now than then." He scans the room again, still scowling. ["Hmm. Well, it doesn't help much now, does it?"] * Kyon goes over to the desk and leans against it. "More knowledge never hurts." [Tomoyuki hides his knife away, producing some medical tape instead, which he starts wrapping around his newly-formed cut.] ["I thought Reiji was here," Kyoko mumbles."] ( - that last quote ) * Kyon turns to look at Kyoko coolly. "Where?" ["I don't know. Wasn't he supposed to be here?"] * Kyon rests the quill on the desk and turns, pulling on the desk to move it away from the wall. "Somewhere. Haven't seen any sign yet." [Kyoko sighs.] [The desk moves away, but there's no secret passage behind it. Or beneath it.] * Kyon pushes the desk back, then pulls out the drawers and looks underneath them. ( Gimme another awareness check, -2 bonus ) 2d6-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6-2) and gets 10, a CRITICAL FAILURE!!! "Death is temporary, only failure is forever. You may have just done both." (Whoo. OK, DR that one.) ( Oh man ) 2d6-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6-2) and gets a natural 6 for a result of 4. ( Good idea :P ) (All right, there's one.) [Kyon pulls out the drawer and finds nothing underneath it. Only... He does notice that something about the drawer itself seems odd. Like, there's less room inside it than it appears on the outside.] * Kyon scowls at the drawer, then examines it more closely. He reaches a hand in and presses around at the bottom of the drawer. [It tilts a bit, implying that the bottom isn't the "bottom"] * Kyon puts the drawer on the desk, and pries at one corner of the bottom part, sparing a moment to glance back and see what the others are doing. [They gather around. "Did you find something?" And sure enough, the bottom does come out. Beneath it is a brass key. It's a simple design, and fairly large (about two and a half inches long).] * Kyon picks the key up, examines it briefly, and jams it in his pocket. "If there's a hidden key, probably got a lock somewhere." [Tomoyuki peeks around the side of the drawer at it. "A key. Well, that's just great. A key to what?" ] * Kyon ignores him and looks sidewise at Kyoko. "You remember any locks?" [Kyoko shakes her head.] * Kyon turns to look at Tomoyuki. "You look around here at all?" [He shakes his head. "Nah, I just got here. But if there's a key, there's probably a door somewhere, right?"] * Kyon shrugs quickly. "Door, box, something." He looks around the room quickly again, then jams his hands in his pockets. "Not here, though. Go back to the temple area. Might be something there." [Tomoyuki nods. "Guess so."] * Kyon smirks, and gestures at the door. "My manners. After you." ["Hmm? I always thought it was ladies first." He glances at Kyoko, who scowls at him. Then he shrugs and heads out anyhow.] * Kyon nods tersely to Kyoko, then follows him out, gesturing for her to come along behind him as he heads toward the temple. [Kyoko comes last, and you head back down the dormitory hallway to reach the temple area. There's little there, save buddha upon an altar.] * Kyon stalks over to the Buddha and altar examines it for anything out of the ordinary. (Should be an and between the altar and examines.) ( Gimme an awareness check ) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6) and gets a natural 11 for a result of 11. (Hee. There's the rolling I know and love.) [Tomoyuki and Kyoko help. And though Kyon doesn't spot anything, Tomoyuki does. "Hmm... Take a look at this." He points at the back of the buddha, where there's some scratching on the altar. "I think this thing moves."] * Kyon nods quickly. "Right. Help me push it, then." He stands next to it at the back, and places his hands on it. [He looks up, then shrugs and moves up to it, placing his shoulder against it. "Alright, ready."] [But for the record, the Buddha is much larger than a normal human, and try as they might, it doesn't even budge.] * Kyon scowls at it, and examines the base again to see if there's any hint of how it might move. [Tomoyuki stops after a bit of effort, shaking his head. "That's not going to work. I bet that key moves it some how. Some kind of mechanism, like in a cheesy movie."] [Looking at the scratches, apparently the Buddha slides backwards along the altar.] * Kyon shrugs quickly, and looks around the altar some more to see if there's anything that looks keyhole shaped. [There doesn't seem to be anything there.] * Kyon stalks around the temple area, just to be sure. "Got to be easier ways to hide your secrets than magical sliding Buddhas." [Tomoyuki sighs. He pulls out his knife again and starts a new cut on the other arm. "Guess Sergeant Honda did his duty well, making this sword so hard to get at."] If he's the one who put it here. If that's what's actually hidden. Just looking to find what's next. Head on over to the other building, now. [Tomoyuki nods and starts towards the mess hall. "If it's not, we're wasting a lot of time."] * Kyon shrugs quickly as he moves in safely behind him. "Closing off leads isn't a waste of time. Means you get there in the end." [Kyoko brings up the lead, and you head into the mess hall used by the monks before. There's four long tables in the room, and the kitchen area is in the back, with a storage room behind it.] * Kyon surveys the mess hall for any possible easy hiding places. [It seems unlikely there would be anything in the hall itself.] * Kyon blows out a breath, and stalks off towards the storage area. [You return to the storage area, a cold stone room, completely empty.] * Kyon looks around it, just to be sure. ( Gimme an awareness check! ) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6) and gets a natural 5 for a result of 5. (Wow. Well, that one worked.) [Kyon nearly trips over one of the stones. Seems it's loose.] * Kyon glares down at it, then checks where the other two are before he crouches and pries at the stone. [Kyoko was hanging out by the door you came in, while Tomoyuki looked outside the door that lead to the garden.] ( gimme a body roll, -1 ) 2d6-1 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6-1) and gets a natural 11 for a result of 10. (Yeah... no.) [The stone is loose, Kyon's unable to get a good grip to pry it out.] [Tomoyuki makes his way over. "Find something?"] * Kyon looks up at him. "Loose stone. Could try using your knife to pry it up." [He holds out his knife. "Go for it. I've got plenty."] * Kyon takes it from him, and tries to lever the point into the stone to pick it up. ( Body roll -4 ) 2d6-4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6-4) and gets a natural 6 for a result of 2. (That works better.) [Kyon pries the stone out, and sure enough finds a keyhole on the ground beneath.] [Tomoyuki looks down at it. "It is just like a cheesy movie."] * Kyon shrugs quickly as he moves the stone to the side. "Stereotypes have to come from somewhere." He keeps the knife one hand as he tugs the key out of his pocket, and examines the keyhole to see if it looks like a match. [It does!] * Kyon sets the key to the hole, and tries turning it. [It turns slowly, but surely, locking into place after a quarter turn.] [What did it do? Find out next time!] [End!]
