[It's late afternoon. Kyon, Kyoko, and Tomoyuki Kojirokawa are in the altar room of an old Buddhist temple, where they've just discovered a cheesey secret passage beneath the Buddha. It leads into a dark stone tunnel. Where that goes, Kyon can't be sure, as he can't see very far into the pitch black.] [Start!] [Tomoyuki peers into the darkness. "Hn."] * Kyon smirks, and raises a finger, staring at it intently until the area above it starts to glow, casting some light into the darkness. "Come prepared." ["That's convenient."] * Kyon smirks harder. "All sweetness and light." He gestures curtly. "Go ahead. Don't have great range on this, so I'll walk in the middle." [He shrugs and takes point. "Suit yourself."] * Kyon shakes his head quickly. "Just being polite. Don't want to leave you stumbling along behind." He stalks in behind him, checking back to make sure Kyoko's coming along. [Kyoko does follow at the end, though rather reluctantly.] [The tunnel goes on for quite a while, at a downward slant. It turns frequently. So frequently that it's hard to keep track of what direction you're going in.] * Kyon keeps his area lit, and stalks along silently, examining the walls as he goes. The walls are rock, though there are old wooden braces every so often. The wood on some of them is rotting. The tunnel was obviously dug by human hand, though nobody bothered with any sort of decorations.] * Kyon just keeps stalking along, scanning around him as he goes. [But after a while, the tunnel opens into a large cavernous room. At the other end of the wall, Kyon can make out a more carved stone. Tomoyuki must, too, because he steps to the side. "This must be the place."] * Kyon nods quickly, and steps more towards the center, so that he can spread the light more. [Kyoko comes in from behind as the light spreads dimly to reveal the faint outline of an altar. It's a simple altar, however: stone stairs leading to a small stone block. Although Kyon can't make it out very well in this light.] [Tomoyuki moves forwards to investigate. "Hm. Well, so far so good. Where is it?"] * Kyon rolls his shoulders, making the light bounce and jitter. "Not like I've been here before. Got to look." He moves closer to the alter, looking carefully around as he does so. ( Gimme an awareness check! ) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6) and gets a natural 6 for a result of 6. (Good!) [Kyon spots a catch on the altar.] [Like an indentation.] * Kyon moves more towards the altar, and shines the light more carefully on it to examine it further. [There's a catch that looks like it would pop open the top of the thing.] (A catch... like how big? Like I could push it with my finger big? Like you'd need a blade to trigger it big?) ( You could trigger it with your finger ) * Kyon reaches out with his offhand, and gingerly reaches out to hit the catch. [The top of the altar pops open like a treasure chest, catching both Tomoyuki's and Kyoko's attention. Inside, resting on a stand, is a fairly simple looking sword. It's got a small cross-guard and a straight blade, looking mostly like a sword from Europe, though it could actually be from another country such as China; it's really impossible to determine.] [Kyoko and Tomoyuki stare at it. "Woah," Tomoyuki gasps. "Is this the real thing?" He reaches for it.] * Kyon grabs his hand before he reaches it. "You usually grab for things without checking for traps? Didn't just hide this here for fun." [He blinks at Kyon. "Come on. They're monks. Maybe a tunnel, but traps?"] * Kyon gestures back towards the way they came in, and to Kyoko. "You're the one who said it's like a cheesy movie. Pick it up, see if a flurry of throwing stars fly through you." Session Close: Mon Dec 12 00:00:00 2005 Session Start: Mon Dec 12 00:00:00 2005 Session Ident: #arcana [He sighs and pulls back. "Fine, fine."] * Kyon nods quickly, and leans over the case with the light, looking to see if there's anything dangerous there. ( Awareness check! ) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6) and gets a natural 10 for a result of 10. (Mmm... no. Alas, alas.) ( There's always DR :P ) (Yeah... might be a good idea, I s'pose.) 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6) and gets a natural 10 for a result of 10. ( Or not <.< ) (Or, not. It's okay, I'll do what I was planning on doing anyway.) [If there's any traps, Kyon can't tell.] * Kyon gestures curtly back at Kyoko. "Take a look." [Kyoko blinks a few times and timidly looks inside. "For?"] * Kyon rolls his eyes. "Talking about traps. Suspicious looking things. Something that shouldn't be there." [Kyoko squints. "I don't see any..." Then she blinks. "Wait." She leans in a bit more to get a better look.] [Kyoko points at the stand. "I think there's a trigger under the sword."] * Kyon nods tersely, and bends down to take a closer look at it, moving the light with him. [There does, indeed, appear to be a trigger on the stand. It's depressed by the weight of the sword.] [Tomoyuki stares at it too. ".... Huh." He glances at Kyon. "Yeah yeah, don't say anything."] * Kyon looks up with a smirk. "Just following your rules." He thinks for a second. "Think you could slide one of your blades onto the trigger while we move the sword off?" ["Hmmm," he muses, pulling a knife from his coat. He looks at the trigger carefully. "Probably, but do you think this would be heavy enough?"] * Kyon scans the area again. "Might be. If there's a loose rock, could use that to weight it after you have the trigger down. Can't before moving the sword, though." [The sword's indented a bit; it would have to be a rock that's not too wide.] ( stand, not sword ) * Kyon stuffs his spare hand in one of his pockets, and stands up. "Find a rock that's heavy enough and narrow." [He shrugs, "You'll have to. Gonna be hard for us to without a light."] * Kyon nods quickly, and holds the light up, scanning the area without moving. ( Gimme a... Hm. ) ( Eh, probably don't need a skill for this :P ) [After some searching, Kyoko comes up with a rock that looks suitable.] (For rock finding? =P) ( I was going to say geology, but that seemed stupid :P ) (Kyon's got 3 in physical science, actually. It'd be a fairly easy roll. =P) * Kyon nods to her, and tugs his hand from his pocket, holding it out flat for her to put the rock in. ( Ok, gimme a phys. sci roll ) 2d6-3 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6-3) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 4. (Mmm... all right.) [Kyoko hands Kyon the rock. He looks it over and determines that it's suitable :P] * Kyon nods tersely to Tomoyuki. "Shift the sword off the trigger with your knife, then once the sword is free, we can put the rock down on it, and you can move the blade." [He nods. "Sounds like a plan."] [He waits for Kyon though, since Kyon is the light.] * Kyon holds up the rock in his off hand, the light over the sword in the other. [Tomoyuki slips his knife under the blade, the tip pushing down the trigger. "Alright, grab it."] * Kyon reaches down and moves the sword off the trigger with the back of his hand, sliding the rock over the blade with the other. ( Gimme a body roll, -3 bonus ) 2d6-3 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyon (2d6-3) and gets a natural 4 for a result of 1. (All right.) [Kyon makes the switch without any problems, and the trigger stays depressed when Tomoyuki removes his knife. "Great."] ( Shall I end here? ) (We could, if you'd like. I suppose that it's fairly likely some problems will occur from here?) ( Mmmmmaybe :o ) [Session End!] Some problems would have occured here, but I didn't count on Kyon figuring there might be a trap ^^ Session Close: Mon Dec 12 00:50:16 2005
