Transportation

How the hell do folks get around?  That's a pretty good question,
as it's pretty hard when just walking without a crystal can kill
you.  Well, there are a few ways to get around that problem.
Most people don't travel, but instead rely on Moogle Mail to move
information and goods.  Also, crystal caravans frequent most
towns and, thus, can temporarily grant passage through the miasma.
Some of the more prominent merchant families also have small
crystals of their own.  These powerful artifacts, crafted by
talented alchemists, are too fragile to endure the rigors of
caravanning, but can be used to move people across clear roads.

Mounts include the standard horses and mules.  There are also, at
least, two other kinds of mounts, however.  Chocobos, large
ostrich-like birds, are covered from head-to-tail in yellow
feathers and make very fast mounts.  Chocobos are very shy,
running from provocation unless trained or cornered.  When
cornered, they make very dangerous opponents, especially if they
are the huge variety.  Like I said, they are usually yellow, but
chocobos rarely have alternate colors to them, ranging from white
to any color of the rainbow to black.  These chocobo can, but
don't always, demonstrate special properties, and are highly
prized.

Another mount is the Wumpus, which acts as more of a beast of
burden.  Wumpuses are a lot like a mix between a cow and a big
blue blob.  They're large, and their head is pretty much inside
their body.  Completely blue, they have white stubby tails and
elephant-like feet.  Wumpuses aren't very bright, but are very
obedient and extremely strong.  They cannot match the speed of a
chocobo.  The caravan's 2 carts will be pulled by 1 wumpus each,
initially.

Sea travel is usually handled by ships large enough to accommodate
about two caravans worth of people, including their mounts and
other provisions.  Captains of these vessels are usually former
caravaners themselves, or prefer living in relative seclusion.

Teleportation is extremely rare, as miasma has disrupted the
usability of such spells.  Most magecite of these spells was
rendered useless and been lost or destroyed for other uses.

Flight, on the other hand, is very possible from magicite.
However, it is rarely used for transportation because the
duration is usually so short.  Airships were never invented,
although several attempts were made before Miasma came. (Although
you KNOW Cid's thinking on it.  Silly engineer).
