[John went through his trial... right on time, as it turns out, so it's just afternoon. He was found guilty almost without a fight; the lawyer assigned to him gave up pretty quickly. Wouldn't you?] [Right about now, he's being trussed up and ready for a hangin'. The executioner's tying the rope around his neck, and James, the sheriff, is also on the podium, looking around at the gathered crowd. John, give me a perception check to start the session off.] 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets 5. [John's fairly sure he spots Mary Anne in the crowd. She's dabbing her eyes with the hand not holding her umbrella, and her expression switches between saddened and horrified.] * John is being bound up. He glances around at the gathered crowd, and smiles with a *ting!*. Guess it had ta happen sooner or later... [James nods as he looks down at the paperwork. "At least you're takin' it like a man." He folds it and tucks it into his pocket, waving for the crowd to quiet. The executioner moves to the lever of death (quite literally, in this case).] * John looks over at the man holding the lever intently. [They do (everyone loves a good hangin'!) and James speaks with authority: "John Rogers has been found guilty of double homicide, and by the power vested in me as sheriff of the City of Redrock, I order him to be hanged." He looks to John. "Any last words or requests? Being set free isn't an option."] Curses, and here I thought you'd let that one slip. * John looks to Mary Anne. "Well, I'd just like to say it's been one hell of a ride, and I hope all of ya a happy life." * John smiles. *ting!* [He chuckles. "There you have it, the great John Rogers." And he walks down the stairs and off of the podium. "Let's get this damn thing over with."] [The executioner yanks at the lever, the ground opening beneath John's feet.] * John hardens his gaze as the door opens. He swiftly says "Fire Swarm", and transforms into a sworm of fire-wasps, easily avoiding the hanging (and possibly burning the rope, too). [The rope burns, oh yes it does. And James spins, drawing his revolver and shooting at the swarm, but only manages to kill one wasp before diving out of the way.] [The crowd stares in shock, then starts screaming like mad and running around, because they're sensible. Except Mary Anne, actually, if John's paying any attention to her. She's just sort of standing and staring, though she has to sidestep a few people with an, "Oh my!"] * John flies all right, and goes straight up and over any houses/etc. that are there to avoid further fire. * John then, assuming it's not covered in guards, flies up and around into where his effects were stored and changes back into John to put them on. "Where the hell did that come from?" [John flies up and away, across the city to the courthouse and through a window, under a door, and to the room where the confiscated items are kept. Give me a perception roll +2.] 2d6+2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for John (2d6+2) and gets 5. [He hears shouting and footsteps. People entering the building, and none too quietly.] * John curses. He mutters "Fire Swarm" again and changes into the swarm, flying out of the house and as fast to the train as possible. [He flies across some guards on the way, and they fire, taking out a few more bugs, but he keeps going on his twisty, turvy path with screaming people (they've taken to the streets, yes) around. There's the station, ahead! And the train's just pulling away!] [Also, he can hear someone yelling, "Mr. Rogers!" from behind him. She sounds fairly out of breath. Three guesses who it is, and the first two don't count.] ( The trolly? ) * John changes into his person while running to the train. He looks back while doing so (and not slowing down or missing a step, might I add) and calls, "What is it Mary?" He made absolutely *sure* to get a handkerchief over his face so they couldn't identify him easily. [She gasps, leaning on her umbrella and grabbing a handkerchief to fan herself with. "I was wondering if you would actually do such a thing, Mr. Rogers. I had thought you a man of character, but back when we met, an officer said..." She trails off.] * John runs for the train, calling back as he approaches it. "Never would in my life. I'm off to get payback on the man who did. And that's a promise." [It's LEAVING OH MY GOD!] * John jumps for the train! [She yells, "Good luck!" and then turns just as people come running down to the train station. "Oh my goodness gracious!"] [Give me an acro (jumping) roll.] 2d6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets 4. [John manages the jump spectacularly, catching the bars of the caboose just as the two officers of the law open fire!] (Two ranged defense, +1 penalty.) 2d6-1 * Dicesuke throws the bones for John (2d6-1) and gets 5. 2d6+1 * Dicesuke throws the bones for John (2d6+1) and gets 7. [John manages to dodge from the first, but the second buries right into his thigh. There are a couple more shots, but by now the train's moving so fast and away that they miss horribly.] * John still manages to tip his hat and smile at Mary as the train leaves. *ting!* * John puts the scarf back up and goes inside the train. Hopefully, he can buy a ticket while aboard. (Or just bribe them.) [End in here.]
