[Fanfan and John approach the shack! It looks like it's been abandoned ages ago. It's made of rough wood, the roof is kindasorta caving in a little, and the door's only hanging half on. The windows are still intact, though it's hard to see what's inside, them being so dusty and all.] * John paces around the shack. I guess nothing looks out-of-the-ordinary? * Fanfan looks around. [Not particularly. The veggie garden is way past being overrun with weeds... at least, the parts in the garden which weren't overrun by rock. Weeds: they grow anywhere there's even the slightest moisture. Like here!] [The cart's wheel is thoroughly missing.] * John approaches the shack and opens the door as quietly as he can. [It creaks as John opens it. So much for that. It's hard to see inside, given the darkness (even with the moonlight), but John spots a cobweb right in his face!] (Give me a perception roll, each of you. Tell me how much you make by. And roll in here; we got dice.) * John rolls his eyes and snaps his fingers, producing a globe of light to illuminate the area inside. 2d6 * Diceroshi throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets a natural 5 for a result of 5. 2d6-4 * Diceroshi throws the bones for Fanfan (2d6-4) and gets a natural 11 for a result of 7. [You see well enough inside to make out more cobwebs! And dust. There's a small, wood-burning stove in one corner of the shack and a desk in another corner with a few drawers. On the desk is an old, predictably dusty, half-burned out candle.] (Any drawers or papers?) * Fanfan coughs a bit and flips out her tessen, actually using it as a fan for once. She looks around some more. [A cot lies closest to the door to your left, though it lacks any bedding but a ratty pillow.] [Well, and an equally ratty mattress.] (Drawers in the desk, otherwise not that you can see.) (What's the floor?) (Wood planks, wood, dirt?) [Rock. There's a lot to go around. But it seems a relatively solid chunk of rock.] [And smooth, if only from someone walking over it all the time.] * John walks in to take a better look, brushing cobwebs out of the way and letting the light better shine in the shed. * Fanfan looks around some more. [John's light illuminates the area! It looks like it was once a... shack, but it was someone's shack, and a cozy enough one. There are old plates and pots of some sort stacked behind the stove, as well as a few dusty burlap bags.] (And it's all covered in dust, right?) * Fanfan checks the bags. [The bags are... empty! Under them is more dishware.] (Ahem, it's all covered in dust, right?) (Dusty dust dust! Give me another perception roll vs. mind.) 2d6-4 * Diceroshi throws the bones for Fanfan (2d6-4) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 3. 2d6 * Diceroshi throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets 2, a CRITICAL SUCCESS!!! "I'm a child of extremes. Have a crit, and a nice day to go with it." * John gets out of the shack as fast as he can, pulling Fanfan with him. * Fanfan looks around some more, frowning at something on the ground--and is got out of the shack like way fast by mister John. "Er?" Did you notice the dust and that spider just kind of staying aloof in there? ...no? ( John, you're seeing things. We most certainly did not enter the GM's Lair of Ultimate Evil and Untimely Player Character Demise.) ( Hee. ) * John motions, ending the light spell. "Well, I did. Something's wrong with that shack, and I don't intend to find out what." (John's a total wuss.) (Well, there is the fact that I'm at less than half hit points.) (And she's at even less than that.) If you want to look into it more, go ahead. I'm going to get to a good hiding position, though. That mob'll have caught up soon, and we don't want to get caught with our pants down. * John heads back up to the horses. ( [The shack eats you on the way out :9] ) * John blinks, as he starts off. "On second thought..." I hope you are not considering pantless mob-fighting. (Fanfan RULES.) * John smiles *ting!*. "Not quite, but it's a thought." He goes back to the shack and walks in again, looking for where the dust was settling, trying to put his hand down where the chair to the desk would be. * Fanfan follows curiously. "That is where the floor looked slightly odd to me." ( XD ) [THE SPIDER EATS HIM. Actually, it scurries up on nothing, and John's hand grasps the back of a chair. That's some loose, supple upholstery there.] * John laughs. "That's what it is then. It's an invisible chair... Who makes an invisible chair?" ... a what? A chair. You sit on it. (One more perception roll, now that you two are looking directly at it.) 2d6 * Diceroshi throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets a natural 6 for a result of 6. * Fanfan approaches and prods the empty air next to John's hand curiously. "They usually do not come in invisible varieties, at least not in Shomura." Not here either. [The chair, for the record, is rather short. It feels distinctly like wood under the cloth.] I wonder if there's anything else like that in here... 2d6-4 * Diceroshi throws the bones for Fanfan (2d6-4) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 3. A slightly disturbing thought. * Fanfan scratches the material curiously, and tugs at it a little to see if it's movable. [Whatever it is shifts with Fanfan's tug, and it moves under John's hand.] [Though the chair backing stays.] * Fanfan freezes. "I..." * Fanfan looks around super-paranoidly. * John blinks... What. Did you just do? [The spider crawls up over John's hand! Eek!] * John waves the spider off of his hand. [It stays.] Nothing, I just tried to pull it a bit to see if it moved. But. * John 'scrapes' it off on the desk then. * Fanfan backs away a little, eyes narrowing. "Do you think...perhaps whatever this material is...could be covering people?" ( It's a MAGIC spider! Now with invisible webbing! ) ... Quite possibly. Are you thinking dead people? [It crawls over the desk. Happy spider!] (Spideryay!) [John does not see dead people.] Preferable to the alternative. Point. * John grabs a piece of the cloth. "Ready to pull it?" * Fanfan steps forward again and takes a grip. "Yes." * John pulls on it with his one hand, his other hand near his holster so he can, well, shoot it if it's not friendly. * Fanfan pulls, tessen still in her other hand. [You yank the cloth off, sending dust everywhere! Under it is... A CHAIR!] ( Gasp! ) [IT EATS YOU. Actually, no. It sits there.] ( Man, man-eating chair woulda been fun. ) * John eyes it for a second. "Good thing it's not a man-eating chair." (Note for next shack.) ( Or a chair-eating man. ) ( *munch-crunch* "Wanna bite?" ) Fortunate indeed. So, what's this thing then? An invisible sheet? * John holds up the sheet trying to, uh, kinda see it. [John's looking very closely, and so he can kinda see it. It's near perfect, though it gives out a bit at the edges, and when he shifts it in the moonlight, its colors also shift so it's almost as though he's looking through it.] Wow, that's very nice. Will definetly come in handy. * John checks the drawers for any loose cash or anything else like that. * Fanfan tries to pick up one end to see how big it is. "Indubitably." [Fanfan succeeds! As she follows the cloth to its end, she feels what's probably a hood, and some buttons. It feels about big enough to fit comfortably on an average Teckian man; certainly enough to completely cover her.] * John picks a key out of the bottom drawer. "Hmm, might come in handy. Shall we be off?" ( omg voyeur! ) (Nuuuuuus! We are discovered!) * Fanfan attempts to put it on. "I suppose so." Don't tell me you're going to go all ninja on us now. Certainly not. That takes years of training. [Millie enters the shack! She sees Fanfan holding nothing and John checking a desk. It's very, very dusty, filled with cobwebs, and there's a chair, that desk (on a rough wooden plank floor), and a cot with a ratty mattress and pillow and wood-burning stove, some burlap sacks, and pots and pans on the stone floor.] [When Fanfan pulls on the nothing, she seems to disappear from sight. Except her head. Freaky.] ( w00t! I are invis! ) * John taps his foot on the planks. Are they hollow beneath them? * Fanfan looks down. "Effective." She glances at the person entering the shack, tensing a bit, but it's only Millie. Pshaw. "Hello." * Millie pushes open the door and looks about. She eyes Fanfan for a moment, but just shakes her head wildly. "Guys. Bad news." * Fanfan frowns. "Have they found us?" Did another cactus find Jinx? * Millie shakes her head. "They might. But that's not it. Jinx fell down a well. We think there's a river or somethin' down there..." Aw hell. Yeah. We tried to get a rope down to him but... But? * Millie puts her hand to her forehead and grits her teeth. "Honestly, I've never seen someone with both the best luck AND the worst like that.." * Fanfan sighs. * John winces. * Millie looks about. "Tairan can't track it. I figure I can try to look and see if we can find a nearby river outlet...barring that..." She sighs heavily. Has the mob passed us by? Don't know. Tairan's keepin' an eye out. * John keeps looking for a keyhole for the key he found earlier while talking. (Where's John looking?) ( If there's a key, there must be a door o/~ ) (Another perception roll.) (The wood planks, the desk, the bed, a door, basically the shack.) 2d6 * Diceroshi throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets a natural 4 for a result of 4. (By 2.) 2d6-4 * Diceroshi throws the bones for Fanfan (2d6-4) and gets -2, a CRITICAL SUCCESS!!! "I'm a child of extremes. Have a crit, and a nice day to go with it." [John finds a handle in the wood planks under the desk. Fanfan sees that *and* below that, oddly enough, a little keyhole.] Well, John, it seems you may still be able to remove your trousers. Before engaging in battle. What, you thought I was serious about that? * John pulls on the handle in the direction that should open it. * Millie suddenly widens her eyes in shock. "Wait, what?" She turns towards Fanfan. "Jus' what are ya guys doin' in here anyway?" [It doesn't open!] * Fanfan eyes John. "Actually, I was rather hoping you were not." * Fanfan smirks at Millie. "Looking around, of course. Unless you suspect us of engaging in surreptitious carnal activities." Discussing things about invisible chairs, getting caught without pants, and bodies beneath canopies. ( Damn, Fanfan's silly when she's recovering from freezer burn. ) That, too. * John motions. "Can you give me a hand with this?" * Fanfan walks over. "With what?" * John points at the handle. * Millie eyes Fanfan for a moment. "Actually, I'd expect that of John. I'd expect more from you." * Fanfan tugs experimentally. You think that highly of me, huh. * Millie then looks over the inside curiously, folding her arms. They don't seem concerned, so why should she be? She casually says "Yep" as she steps inside. [It doesn't open!] Is it stuck? Or not meant to open in the first place? [Fanfan's hands poke out of the cloak, though, so now only her head and hands are visible. Creepyx2.] ( She's been taking lessons from Deme. o_o ) It should open, shouldn't it? It looks like it should. But I am no expert on architecture. (Or is that keyhole actually in the handle?) ( Damn it, John, I'm a sword-dancer, not an architect! ) * Millie 's eyes settle on Fanfan. "Um..." * Millie looks about the building to see if she can make anything out. (Fanfan, the keyhole's *in* the boards.) * Fanfan points to it. "Try there." (Today is the day for me missing things. ) * Millie walks over to the trap door. "Find something?" Where? * Fanfan is still pointing. "That hole there." * John feels for something and, upon finding the keyhole, delicately puts the key in and turns it, trying NOT to break it. Because broken keys suck. [It clicks!] * Fanfan tries pulling again. * John tries pulling again too! [The board lifts easily enough, with a bit of a creak! They remove most of the ground under the desk this way, revealing a rather large cubbyhole.] Well that was simple enough. [It looks like it's carved into the rock and dirt, and not dusty, and at first glance there's nothing in there.] * Fanfan blinks. "Curious and yet more curious." (More perception rolls.) 2d6-4 * Diceroshi throws the bones for Fanfan (2d6-4) and gets a natural 8 for a result of 4. * John snaps, bringing up his light source again to lighten up the area. 2d6 * Diceroshi throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets a natural 8 for a result of 8. 2d6 * Diceroshi throws the bones for Millie (2d6) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 7. [Thanks to John's light, Fanfan spots some Teckian coins half-buried in the dirt.] * Fanfan squints and reaches down to pick one up. "Hm." [The coin seems very old, but it looks like it's only worth a dollar.] Oh, nice. There are a few more. * John looks down, and assuming Fanfan's ability to point stuff out is correct, he goes about sifting through the dirt a bit to pick up some of the coins. [Together, you find ten one dollar coins! They're all old. Hooray!] (Are they so old they aren't used in circulation anymore?) * Millie stares at the coins. "Hmm...can I see?" She holds out her hand. (Give me, oh, a cultural arts (history) roll. Or something else you can justify to me, if you want to try to beg it. ;P) 2d6 * Diceroshi throws the bones for John (2d6) and gets a natural 8 for a result of 8. * Fanfan drops hers into Millie's hand.
