He's cheeky without being overbearing, an' he knows how ta have fun. Ain't overserious 'bout things like some of the rest of these fellers. Still makes me wonder why he's really in this though. Now if ah can just get him to shoot proper..." Outside perspective: Jinx tends to like mischief and takes a rather nonchalant look at life. His personable attitude seems to make him one of the few universally liked and respected characters from both east and west. He feels that luck will see him through no matter what, but not all of it has been good, which is the source of his nickname. He seems callous and unfeeling, but it's more a result of his bitterness and cynicism than any lack of feeling. Jinx also lost his other 5 horses somehow. Takes a liking towards injuns and gamblers, professing himself an honest man. Takes a laid back approach to most situations, and fires without looking. Outside perspective: John suffers from two main misfortunes. One is that he seems to attract the most pushy females who a) feel jealous of any other female around him, and b) force him into unspeakable acts like marriage or other ceremonies. The other misfortune is the fact that he's framed for the murder of his family. His brother took over the family business and ended up framing him. Who wouldn't eh? Lessee, what can I say 'bout myself? Well, I'm really the sweetest thing you'll ever meet, jus' as long as ya don't get on my bad side. Outside perspective: The Queen of Mood Swings and Melodrama, Millie's got a tendency to make an impression on everyone she meets. Whether that impression is good or bad is anyone's guess. Has a tendency to act miffed more often than not, and it's hard to tell what really irritates her and what she's playing at. Proud and stubborn, she seems to be out to find "the real thing," which presumably has something to do with the tablet and its connection to the ruins. Has an unnatural fixation with guns, particularly her own rifle, and she talks to it on multiple occassions. Freaks out when it comes to undead. Carries 'fake' treasure maps on her for some reason. Former PCs Mary Anne Pippins Full Name: n/a Other Nicks: Miss Mary, Miss Pippins Occupation: Explorer Society Chair Description: Full Teckian, attractive, long blond hair, blue eyes, dresses in "ladylike" garments, carries bamboo umbrella with a colorful pattern and a handbag Weapon(s) of choice: Oriental-style umbrella: shoots lightning, parries blows Strengths: Sees the best in people, strong moral character, knowledgeable Weaknesses: Somewhat sheltered, pushy, easily embarrassed, overly polite, not very combat competent so far, temporary insanity Millie's take: "Miss Mary's...alright I guess. But gawd, her 'diplomacy' gets on my nerves. Things ain't always polite to ya, and she's just way too naive to notice that. Probably why we seem ta lose her every other day. About time that girl learned ta take care of herself..." Outside perspective: Leader of the group's expidition to find the mysterious tablet. Mary's grandfather is a prestigious member of the Redrock Society of Explorers and Scientists. As such it follows that she's well respected as well, but she seems a little naive of the world. This extends to her politeness, which seems to deny that there is any evil in the world. She seems to scold any bad language or acts that aren't "gentlemanly" or "ladylike," yet there's a side of her that is distinctly unladylike as well. Kidnapped on a regular basis. Wandered off ill after being whacked by a giant skeleton's sword and is currently missing in action. Quote: "Oh my goodness gracious!" NPCs Calamity Jan Session mentioned: 3, (Seen) 20 Full Name: Unknown Other Nicks: Janny Occupation: Outlaw Description: Pretty, but rough-looking Teckian woman. Brownish-blonde hair in a loose ponytail and brown eyes; wears a black cowboy hat, and an open leather vest over a functional cotton shirt. Weapon(s) of choice: Twin pistols Strengths: Tricky bandit, good leader, excellent shot. Weaknesses: Price on her head, not so good at covering her tracks Millie's take: "Somethin' seems a little fishy 'bout this whole thing. I think there's more to this tablet thing than Miss Mary's lettin' on. I doubt a bandit like Calamity Jan would steal somethin' by accident. Wait, did she steal it? I'm confused. If she don't have it... what really happened down there?" Outside perspective: Not much known about Calamity Jan other than she's famous (or infamous rather; she's the most wanted bandit in Teck and she's deadly but fair. Gives people a chance to back out because she doesn't want to kill them but she also doesn't want to be captured either. She takes chances going through dangerous territory, but was finally found in the ghost capital of Izu, but she got away. Her bounty is set at 35,000$Teckian currently, wanted alive. Seemed traumatized by "killing" Jinx and doesn't know that he survived it yet. Quote: "And the people who try ta catch me? Bad luck for them, too. Might even happen again." Crazy Feathers Session first seen: 1 Full Name: Unknown Other Nicks: Crazy, Mister Feathers, Swindler Occupation: Merchant Description: Dark-skinned injun, twinkling black eyes, long black hair with beads and feathers in them Weapon(s) of choice: A charming smile and witty haggling Strengths: The best travelling salesperson in town, has everything you need Weaknesses: Doesn't have the prices you want Millie's take: "Crazy's a cheat. I'd hate for him ta hike the prices up more because he don't like me." Outside perspective: Exists for the sole purpose of irritating PCs and lightening their wallets. Crazy Feathers moves with the speed of the wind, following the troop wherever they go ready to make a crazy deal. His prices are outlandish, but when you're out in the middle of nowhere, what are you gonna do? Supposedly there's a way to bargain with him, but only Running Cloud seems to know the secret. Weapon(s) of choice: Bow and arrows (with at least some poisoned), tomahawk Strengths: Better at archery than most people are with a gun, remains calm under pressure Weaknesses: Greedy (though he'd probably say the same about other people), has a thing for pretty ladies Millie's take: "Nice guy. Woulda liked him better if he hadn't shot at us, but well it's the principle of the thing. I ain't gonna have us do all the work and some cheeky bastard get a major cut." Outside perspective: Looking for Calamity Jan to keep the reward. Fairly open in taking an interest in flirting, but won't let that stop him in his pursuit. Seems to want to hide his full name, though since his partner-in-crime Eri calls him "Duckster," it might be just as much from embarrassment than from mystery. Shot John through the hand when he tried to walk away without settling an agreement to split Jan's bounty, which may put a damper on any potential friendships. Quote: "Firin' on me like that. Currently seems to be under Calamity Jan's protection. Knows a variety of spells, including a greenish force field that deflects bullets, entangling vines, and a yellow sleeping mist. Thinks Easterners are "hung up on everything." Picked up a chunk of rock from Izu that the bandits had come for. Quote: "Uh-uh. I ain't going back." Probably a good shot too Weaknesses: Doesn't talk much, though that may be a strength Millie's take: n/a Outside perspective: Greebo's pretty much defined by his size. He's a big hulking brute who may or may not be none-too-bright. He hasn't really said enough to go either direction. From what he has said though, he seems pretty sure about the consequences of the job when he signed up and is willing to accept them. Weaknesses: Black-hearted bastard, which probably won't earn much sympathy from the protagonists Millie's take: "This guy's bad news. There's just some things ya don't do. And he crossed the line. Ain't no way he's gettin' away if we catch 'im" Outside perspective: If there's one potential for archvilliany coming, this character seems first in line. Part of the Teckian division that nearly wiped out the Himoto clan. Ruthless, uncaring, and laughing in the face of others misfortune, this is a person who doesn't just want you to die, but wants to enjoy watching you squirm as he does it. Sakura seeks vengeance on him for his genocide. Quote: "You Shomurans and your honor. You always did make me laugh." He knows how ta treat a lady proper. And he ain't clueless neither. Hope he's not to worried 'bout us, but I'm sure he'll get along fine. He can take care of himself." Outside perspective: A little rough around the edges, but overall a good guy. He's mostly just hired help, but he does his job politely enough while still remaining straight forward and no nonsense. Wears two swords, one on each side. Has elaborately styled Hair, which covers a few scars by her bangs. Weapon(s) of choice: Twin swords Strengths: Acrobat, hasn't particularly gotten on anyone's bad side yet Weaknesses: Acting gives a bad impression sometimes, doesn't "have enough up top." Millie's take: "Um...who are we talkin' 'bout again?" Outside perspective: Fanfan's an actress and street performer. Seems to get along fairly decently with everyone, but not much has really come out about her yet. Generally quiet and thoughtful, but overall non-intrusive, she just decided to tag along with the intrepid adventures on their journey. Since she can actually fight, this went over just fine. Mikoto Full Name: Unknown Other Nicks: Blondie, Mikky Occupation: Martial Artist/Assassin Description: Half Shomuran (father's half), half Teckian(mother's half), short blond hair, wears western clothes consisting of a white button down shirt and shortpants Weapon(s) of choice: Fists, pistol, Mirabel: spirit in the form of a hunting falcon, magical in nature (presumably Wind) Strengths: Rather good at hiding true nature, curious Weaknesses: Paranoid at times (with good reason but still), owes loyalty to someone else, veiled insults, physically frail Millie's take: "Mikky's bein' strange lately. Can't figure him out, not that I ever wanted to. The way I sees it, he's been tryin' ta hold things in so long that they're just gushin' out. An' that ain't good. Don't think he likes me much either. Not that I care. Stupid Mikoto." Outside perspective: Ordered to seek the tablet for his mission, not much is known about his employment, although he works for someone higher up in the Empire and is part of the Ryuugen clan. Prefers hand-to-hand fighting or his magical "falcon". Was able to play dumb and control his temper fairly well, but recently it seems like things have been weighing on him. Has had some difference of opinion, mostly with the westerners and occasionally pokes subtle fun at other's expense, though he's much more subtle than Millie in that regard. Since he's good with wordplay, though, a lot of people don't recognize it. A good link of reference between the East and West, and general scholar and diplomat of the Shomuran half. Sakura Full Name: Sakura Himoto Other Nicks: Sword Lady Occupation: Samurai/Slayer of all things Bandity Description: Rather short Shomuran supposed-to-be-female. Covered from head to toe in either her hat, her kimono, or her mask, which is in the shape of a lovely older woman. Underneath the mask is red hair and a face full of horrible scar tissue. Weapon(s) of choice: Katana and sword-channeled magic Strengths: Bold and determined, nasty with a katana, can knock bullets out of the air Weaknesses: Blunt, aggressive, single-minded, and has a death wish. Appearance is also very suspicious Millie's take: "Look, I really don't wanna talk about-oh fine. But if ya want me ta tell ya 'bout sword-lady, it's gonna cost ya. Alright, ta put it bluntly, she's one of those people who's stuck in the past, ya know? there just ain't only two ways ta go about things. Once she realizes that, everything'll be hunky-dorey. Just I get the feeling she wouldn't get it if it collapsed on her like a house. And then she'd probably slash her way outta that house and get vengeance on the builder. Go fig." Outside perspective: Sakura's a bundle of fierce samurai vengence stuffed in a kimono and mask. Seeks to put the ghosts of the Himoto clan to rest by seeking vengeance on the mysterious "Man in Red." She may very well be the last remaining survivor of the clan. Stays pretty quiet unless she's threatening someone or making blaze comments about death. Tairan Full Name: Was Tairan Hoshimoto but lost the last name when exiled; Tairan is a full name now Other Nicks: Lanky Occupation: Tracker/Ronin Description: Tall Shomuran, wirey muscle, wears a sleeveless green tunic and general cowboy garb, carries a pistol on one hip and a sword on the other Weapon(s) of choice: Ancestral sword. Magic: Earth Element, Custom revolver with gold trim, style unknown Strengths: Unusual fighting style, only tracker around Weaknesses: Foul mouth when irritated, bad luck with women, chased for his sword Millie's take: "Eh. Tairan's useful. Every group needs a tracker an' he's it. A lotta the rest seem concerned about his past, but as long as he don't get us killed, it don't matter. It's jus' strange how he acts sometimes. Got like two frames of mind, an' one ain't doin' him no good. Though usin' a sword an' a gun is kind of a cool idea. Maybe I can get him ta teach me." Outside perspective: Tairan's practicality got in the way when he dared to use a gun to save his then-girlfriend, Tamiko. It so happened that she ratted on him and resulted in him being exiled. This wrankled him so much that he decided to steal the ancestral sword, making him a target for being killed as well. He seems to have no regrets. Tairan prefers to do things to get the job done and to survive rather than any concept or code of honor he holds. Sword lets up a nice explosion of earth when it hits the ground. His gun is supposedly looted from a tomb, which would make for another taboo that Tairan has broken. Quote: "Live fast, live long, don't be a fuckup. s'all there is, really." Former PCs Suzunosuke Takame Full Name: n/a Other Nicks: Suz Occupation: Samurai/Poet Description: Full Shomuran, Solid and highly muscular young samurai. Deep brown eyes, hair drawn back into a warrior's knot, exposing a small, intricate tattoo of a falcon centered on his forehead. Samurai garb, with his belt twisted as if to carry a sword, though none is present. Weapon(s) of choice: Katana Strengths: Solid, seems rather protective of people despite how much they bother him Weaknesses: Not the brightest in the bunch, sentimental Millie's take: (Precapture):"Suz is....simple. But that's okay. Boy's got a good heart ta make up for it. He's probably one of the most likeable slot-eye outta the group. I'm jus' worried Mikoto or someone'll try an' take advantage of it. Fortunately, he's suspicious 'nuff that he may not fall for it easily. May not. Ya never know." (Postcapture):"Suz, yer the biggest idiot I know..." Outside perspective: Suzunosuke is an intimidating warrior that, alas, has a faintly distracted look to him. Isn't necessarily too fond of the girls (he thinks they're idiots sometimes) but that doesn't really stop him from being understanding. As with Millie, he goes generally by his (the Eastern) way is the best way and can't fathom much someone not knowing eastern tradition and honor, although he's trying to. Suz is a fan of poetry and tries to be a poet himself, but seems to forget the words. The Takame clan itself is known for its warriors, but is currently feuding with Iwahara. Suzunosuke turned himself in valiantly to the officer of the Iwahara clan to avoid conflict. Quote: "Alas, I am merely a young warrior making his own name." NPCs Lord Akamatsu Session first seen: 17 Full Name: Unknown Other Nicks: None Occupation: Clan leader Description: Large Shomuran gentleman, with a long moustache to his chin; Wears heavy yellow armor with the Akamatsu symbol Weapon(s) of choice: Small army, but handheld weapon of choice is unknown Strengths: Respected leader, honest and honorable Weaknesses: Stubbornly refuses to aide anyone he sees as remotely "honor tainted" Millie's take: "Shoulda let me handle it. The boys don't seem ta realize the effects of a woman's charms sometimes. All and all though, seems like we coulda handled the local lord better. Tai's got himself in a real pickle alright. I'm countin' the years until he realizes it." Outside perspective: Lord Akamatsu holds no love for the Hoshimoto clan, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily allied with Tairan for fighting against his sadistic father either. Tairan's a bother to his father, whom Akamatsu sees as a dishonorable dog, so it amuses him to keep Tairan as a thorn in Hoshimoto's side. Nevertheless, he sees Tairan as a bandit and refuses to help him in any way. Stubborn and proud Quote: "If only that were the case. Eri Tabushi Session first seen: Intro 7 Full Name: The GREAT Eri Tabushi Other Nicks: None Occupation: Bandit Hunter Description: Rather plain Shomuran female; Always grinning; Has long, straight black hair in a ponytail; Wears blue armor and carries a wicked Naginata. Weapon(s) of choice: Do not question the Naginata Strengths: Skilled fighter, has a few techniques up her belt Weaknesses: Clearly mentally disturbed, tends to harass people for not believing in The Naginata, doesn't mind being set on fire, which isn't a great survival tactic. Millie's take: "She's nuts, I tell ya. Fun gal, pretty good for someone who doesn't use a firearm. And she's raight, at that. Sword lady needs a new hobby." Outside perspective: Eri Tabushi is a horrible attempt on the GMs to try and crush the player's sanity. The Naginata is strength, the Naginata sees all and rules all, but most importantly, the Naginata corrupts little Eri's head. Bandit hunter partnered with "D" who has a little rivalry with Sakura and this horrible little tendency to grin. Possibly killed in her last fight with Sakura, but very very doubtful.
