Appearance: Jack has short-cropped sandy blond hair that spends most of its time in Caesar style or in the stylishly messy style (even though neither of these are actually popular in the early '90s) and big, bright blue eyes. His skin is flawless and tanned a healthy bronze. Jack spends a lot of time swimming, climbing, and hauling; consequently his body is sleek and lean without being remarkably toned or muscular. He tends to wear deck shoes and jeans or jean shorts with short or long sleeved T-shirts. He favors Big Johnson shirts and other gag and off-color wear. Aside from having the kind of skin that Neutrogena would love to put in their "use our products and you'll look like this" style ads, he has the whole "cute like an excited puppy" thing going for him.

History: Until very recently, Jack had lived his entire life in and around his parents' marina in Savannah, Georgia. He's been helping his family and his older sister out around the docks since he was old enough to swim and tie a knot. One day early in the summer of 1993 he was helping out as usual and he got a little careless; he ended up tangled in the mooring line of a large yacht that was headed out to sea, and the crew had no idea that he was being dragged behind the boat by a leg until an hour later. They brought a wet and bewildered but miraculously unhurt Jack back to the marina, where he eventually discovered that his superhuman mastery over--and reliance on--water went beyond simply being able to survive keel-hauling. The more he explored his abilities the harder it was to hide the fact that he was a mutant, which didn't really change his water-loving family's opinion of him but which was incidentally very bad for business. The Porters sent Jack to Xavier's school as much to protect the family livelihood and reputation as to give Jack a place where he could learn more about his mutation in earnest.
